Ondersteunen van werkende mantelzorgers in zorgorganisaties: met burgerwetenschap op zoek naar de dialoog
摘要
Support of working informal caregivers by employers requires a tailored approach. Interventions are unknown or don’t match with needs and caregivers seem to experience barriers to having a dialogue with their supervisors. Our goal was to explore how the dialogue about support in balancing work and caregiving can be promoted, in collaboration with informal caregivers working in healthcare and HR advisors.
MethodsWe used a citizen science-based, design-oriented approach. During the COVID-19 pandemic, 25 caregivers completed a questionnaire. Five of them subsequently participated in an interview, and three later joined the project as co-researchers, along with three HR advisors and three scientific researchers. Quotes from the interviews were interactively analyzed using affinity diagrams on an online platform, after which scenarios were developed, and the core problem was formulated.
ResultsThe caregivers, HR advisors, and scientific researchers developed affinity diagrams from different perspectives: personal, overarching, and specific, respectively. The scenarios described possible support (and obstacles to it) by stakeholders to address the root cause of the core problem, which is the lack of dialogue, leading to the employee feeling isolated. Setting boundaries and receiving appreciation were key concepts.
ConclusionThe interactive approach, based on an equal relationship, provided participants with deep insights into each other’s perspectives. This fulfilled a prerequisite for dialogue, which is often overlooked.
