Pan-Africanism Reimagined? Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traoré and the Confederation of the Sahel States
摘要
Ibrahim Traoré, president of Burkina Faso since 2022, is a controversial figure: some view him as a leading figure of decolonisation, national sovereignty, and Pan-Africanism; others accuse him of authoritarianism and repression of civil society and the media. The article discusses the recent political developments in Burkina Faso, how Traoré generates legitimacy for his government and to what extent the creation of the Alliance of Sahel States can be considered a new form of Pan-Africanism.
