Die Krise der zivil-militärischen Beziehungen in den USA – Ein Risiko auch für Deutschland?

The return of Donald Trump to the presidency in 2025 has altered civil-military relations in the U.S. This article identifies key patterns of this change and examines whether a comparable erosion of civil-military relations could also occur in Germany. The analysis shows that legal, institutional, and cultural factors in German civil-military relations currently present significant obstacles to an anti-democratic instrumentalization of the armed forces. However, institutional resilience is not static. Instead, it requires continuous political and societal attention.
