<p>The terrorist attack by Hamas on October&#xa0;7, 2023 caused a&#xa0;twofold paradigm shift in Israeli security policy. The article examines Israel’s changed way of dealing with Hamas and Iran while pushing the limits of international law. After a&#xa0;dark year of war, Israel has thus managed to rise from a&#xa0;position of extreme vulnerability to one of strength. This has opened up a realistic possibility of ending the war and transforming the region into a&#xa0;more peaceful order.</p>

The terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023 caused a twofold paradigm shift in Israeli security policy. The article examines Israel’s changed way of dealing with Hamas and Iran while pushing the limits of international law. After a dark year of war, Israel has thus managed to rise from a position of extreme vulnerability to one of strength. This has opened up a realistic possibility of ending the war and transforming the region into a more peaceful order.
