摘要

Haredi Jews form the fastest growing segment of Jewish communities worldwide. Yet, despite their numerical and, increasingly, political significance, the size of Haredi communities outside of Israel has only been roughly approximated. This paper proposes two methodologies for improving estimates of the size of Haredi communities in diaspora cities, one based on community directories, the other on official counts of Haredi schoolchildren. To illustrate and compare the utility of these methodologies, they are applied to Canada’s two main Haredi communities, those of Montreal and Toronto.
