<p>Chongsokjong is a famous geological heritage of volcanic rocks in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. In this paper, we analyzed the characteristics and diversity of the unique basaltic landscapes of Chongsokjong, evaluate the scientific value of the geological heritage by means of quantitative assessment methods. We also discussed the natural heritage value of the Chongsokjong through comparative analysis with volcanic rock areas registered as world heritage. The scientific value by quantitative assessment method of Brilha (2016) is 360 points, and therefore it is considered to be of international significance. The values used for scoring were developed based on our experience and judgement, and apply in a comparative sense. Chongsokjong has the definite geological evidence of the Quaternary volcanic eruption and weathering, and is distributed in the range of over 1 000&#xa0;m, including basalt walls and basalt pillars of about 20&#xa0;m high, degraded basalt pillars, remnant basalt pillars and basalt taluses. These basalt landscapes are not only aesthetically very significant, but also present a complete model of the formation of basalt landforms by abrasion. Our comparative analysis is only a preliminary comparative analysis of specific objects already registered in the World Heritage. In the future, more research and data research are needed to achieve the registration of the world heritage. Comparative analysis with other volcanic rock heritages on the World Heritage List shows that Chongsokjong is a valuable natural heritage with high conservation significance.
