<p>This study addresses the need to inventory and assess the geological heritage of the municipality of Aratoca, Santander (Colombia), and its surroundings, as part of the efforts to promote sustainable development and support the proposal of the Chicamocha Canyon as an Aspiring Geopark. The region exhibits significant geological diversity with high scientific, educational, and touristic value. A qualitative and quantitative methodological approach was used, including field surveys, bibliographic reviews, and expert assessments. Nineteen geotopes were identified and classified into three main groups based on their geological characteristics. Each geotope was evaluated using criteria such as scientific relevance, educational potential, touristic appeal, and risk of degradation. Additionally, three georoutes were designed to facilitate interpretation and promote geotourism. The study documented a wide range of geological features, including igneous-metamorphic contacts and sedimentary formations, reflecting the geological complexity of the region. The proposed georoutes allow visitors and researchers to explore key geological processes and landscapes shaping the Chicamocha Canyon. Some geotopes were found to be at risk of degradation due to natural and anthropic pressures. The identification and evaluation of geotopes underscore the region’s potential for geoconservation and geotourism. The results highlight the need for strategic conservation measures and public awareness to ensure the protection and sustainable use of geological resources. Furthermore, the development of communication tools and educational materials contributes to the dissemination of geological knowledge and supports local engagement. This work offers a comprehensive framework for the conservation and promotion of geological heritage in Aratoca and its surroundings. By integrating scientific research with tourism and education, the study contributes to regional sustainable development and strengthens the case for the Chicamocha Canyon to be recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark.</p>
