<p>Except for hydrological resources, little attention has been given to geological resource monitoring, especially in geological sites (GS). Thus, geoindicators, understood as geological-geomorphological indicators for assessing rapid environmental change, are discussed to understand their potential use in GS monitoring in geoconservation. The article presents a systematic review based on: (i) a survey of the use of geoindicators in general environments and (ii) provides an overview of the use of indicators in monitoring the conservation status of GS. The studies selected for review were based on the articles written in English, and the author keywords from the Scopus database. For the first objective, the keyword “geoindicators” was used, and for the second, the following author keywords were employed: “geoconservation + monitoring”, “geosite + monitoring”, “geoheritage + monitoring”, “geodiversity + monitoring”, and “geotourism + monitoring”. After excluding review articles, duplicates, and those out of scope, 29 articles were analyzed based on the criteria of objective, environment, identified indicators, and methodological procedures. The analysis revealed that geoindicators had been used in environmental assessment in various geological contexts, especially those of active geological processes. Environmental studies focus on processes and associated changes, and more comprehensive concepts include anthropic and biological indicators. In geoconservation monitoring studies, the primary purpose of using geological indicators was to assess natural processes concerning the conservation status of GS and visitor safety, particularly in sites with active geological processes. Although many of the indicators used in geoconservation are related to geoindicators, their application is distinct.</p>
