<p>Inspired by the Luberon model in France, initially designated as a Natural Park, later recognized as a Biosphere Reserve, and ultimately as a UNESCO Global Geopark, this study aims to identify priority areas for the creation of geoparks in the Serra do Espinhaço Biosphere Reserve (SEBR). We adopted an exploratory approach based on document analysis and comparison with international experiences. We engaged with an analytical framework structured around three dimensions: (i) governance and management structures, (ii) the relevance of geodiversity and potential for geotourism, and (iii) contribution to sustainable development and territorial enhancement. The selection of priority areas included already established protected areas and conservation unit mosaics, recognized for their relevance in integrated landscape management. As a result, three strategic arrangements were identified: Cabral-Sempre Vivas, Itambé-Rio Preto, and Serra do Cipó-Intendente. These regions stand out for their rich geodiversity, characterised by quartzite outcrops, caves, and rupestrian grasslands, as well as their potential for sustainable tourism development and the strengthening of the local economy. The study also discusses the overlap of areas recognised by UNESCO, such as Biosphere Reserves and Geoparks, analysing their advantages and challenges. On the one hand, this integration can enhance territorial management by promoting a more cohesive approach to conservation and sustainable development, aligning different values and initiatives to foster territorial valorisation. Conversely, excessive overlap of institutional layers can pose governance challenges, increase administrative complexity, and hinder coordination between various levels of management.</p>
