<p>Decision problems with sequential alternatives, which appear in a successive way, and therefore are related to an evolutive set of alternatives, are not considered in most Methods and Models related to Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM/A) found in the literature. This kind of problem can be approached by using a sorting problematic. The sorting problematic involves allocating alternatives to pre-defined categories. Particularly, the paper uses the trichotomic sorting problem in which the DM allocates the alternatives to three pre-defined categories, which are considered in most practical, managerial problems. Several MCDM/A problems are concerned with this problematic. However, a challenge in this kind of problem is to specify profiles (or boundaries) which differentiate the categories. The preference modeling is the focus of the paper. The core contribution of the paper and its novelty is to propose an elicitation procedure to obtain the profiles considering the Decision-Maker (DM) aspiration and satisficing levels to solve Trichotomic problems. The elicitation procedure is conducted in an interactive way with the DM. More specifically, a particular reference problem which is set in the context of multiple criteria and has an evolutive set of alternatives is considered. This novel elicitation procedure is applied to deal with this kind of sequential alternative by applying ELECTRE TRI, one of the sorting methods.</p>
