Tattoos machen die Haut und unsere Welt bunter

  • Petra Hirtler

摘要

Tattoos are not only skin deep; they have also become a significant part of our society, with one in four people in Austria having one or more tattoos. However, getting a tattoo can lead to health issues such as infections, foreign body reactions, allergic reactions, or increased photosensitivity, which might require professional treatment. Considering the number of tattoos, these health problems and side effects are quite rare. Psychological stress is much more common and is caused by dissatisfaction with the tattoo’s design, shape, placement, or meaning. In such cases, removing the tattoo can help patients feel comfortable in their own skin again. Laser tattoo removal, however, is a lengthy and expensive process that comes with its own side effects and risks. Patients need to be well-prepared for this process and thoroughly informed about the treatment procedure, potential risks and complications, and the necessary aftercare. The success of the treatment largely depends on good teamwork between physicians and patients. When this collaboration succeeds and the tattoo is successfully removed, it can lead to people feeling comfortable in their own skin again, being able to fully express themselves, no longer being reminded of certain stories daily, and facing the world with a smile.
