Herpesviren: Überblick und Therapie

Human pathogenic herpesviruses cause various clinical pictures, the course of which is strongly dependent on the cellular immunity status of the patients. It is important to check the immune status of the patients to avoid severe outcomes. Early and careful microbiological diagnosis combined with the timely initiation of antiviral therapy are crucial. Except for the varicella zoster virus, there is no available vaccination against herpesviruses. Currently, two vaccines against the varicella zoster virus are available to protect against reactivation and prevent herpes zoster disease.
