摘要

The term resilience has experienced a significant upswing in biopsychological and neuroscientific research during the past two decades. However, heterogeneous definitions of the term exist, which complicate the comparability of data. Since the operationalization of questionnaires also depends on the definition of the construct to be measured, this article will first examine the term resilience from various conceptual angles and, secondly, discuss the operationalization of the different definitions. The second part of the article deals with resilience factors and mechanisms that, according to current research, help individuals to remain mentally healthy in the face of adverse events or chronic stress. At an individual level, these include, among others, optimism, self-efficacy, a sense of coherence and at a contextual level, they include social support and education.
