摘要

Childhood cancer affects all family members. The nature and extent of the distress and mental burden can change over the course of the disease. While in the acute phase of the disease and treatment, the focus is on survival of the ill child or adolescent, after successful treatment, there is a return to everyday life with some remaining limitations in the child’s functioning. Everyday family life can be disrupted by separation situations, changes in relationships, or changes in lifestyle. Adolescents can be affected in their development of autonomy after cancer. Preparing for the transition to adult medicine is a central component of care in this age group. Individual and family coping with the challenges can be supported by needs-oriented psychosocial care throughout the entire phase of illness.
