Nationale Dekade gegen Krebs – Gemeinsamkeit macht stark

Joining forces to make progress in cancer research in order to increase patients’ prospects of being cured—this is the mission of the National Decade Against Cancer (NDK). In 2019, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) launched the NKD in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG), the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), the German Cancer Society, patient representatives, and many other partners from health care, politics, industry and society. Much has been achieved in the first 5 years of the decade. Trend-setting structures have been established. Work has started on expansion of the National Center for Tumor Diseases. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new building which will accommodate the National Cancer Prevention Center of the DKFZ and German Cancer Aid is scheduled to take place before the end of the year. Patient involvement has become standard in projects of the NKD and has also made good progress outside this context.
