摘要

School burnout, characterized by emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and a sense of inadequacy, has been linked to emotional and physical problems, as well as poor academic performance. This study aimed to validate the Romanian version of the School Burnout Inventory (SBI) for children and adolescents, providing a tool for early detection of school burnout in this context. A total of 975 participants from 21 educational institutions in Romania completed the survey via the REThink Emotions app. The SBI’s psychometric properties were evaluated using reliability analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analyses (CFA). Model fit was assessed with indices including RMSEA, CFI, and TLI, with criteria set for adequate fit. The study also examined correlations between SBI scores and related constructs, such as emotional and behavioral problems. K-Means Cluster Analysis was used to establish cut-off scores for burnout within the Romanian-speaking student population. Confirmatory Factor Analysis confirmed the three-factor structure of emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and inadequacy. The SBI showed strong reliability and validity, with correlations to emotional and behavioral problems, school engagement, and mindfulness. Test–retest reliability indicated moderate stability over time. The study established cut-off scores for low, moderate, and high burnout, enhancing the tool’s practical application for identifying at-risk students. Limitations include the exclusive focus on Romanian students and self-reported data. Overall, the SBI is a reliable tool for assessing academic burnout.
