<p>This commentary considers the notion of semioethics developed by Susan Petrilli and Augusto Ponzio who argue that it is not a discipline in its own right. Rather, it functions as a set of self-imposed constraints on human environmental conduct through codes of responsibility, respect and care for all life forms, the innate dialogism of the human that seeks to converse with “the other” (alterity) and to listen attentively, to intervene when there is a threat to all life forms. It also considers its relationship to biosemiotic ethics.</p>
