<p>In the last two decades, biocodicology has established itself as an interdisciplinary field connecting genetics and history. It involves the analysis of biological information obtained from animal products, usually in the form of historic documents written on parchments. This approach offers new insights into not only the historic animals but also the documents themselves. Here, we present the results of such an analysis performed on three medieval parchments.</p>
