摘要

Fetal bovine serum (FBS) is still the gold standard growth factor supplement in mammalian cell culture, despite ethical, economic, and environmental concerns. Chemically synthesized and bio-derived products were identified as possible alternatives, however, with notable limitations like missing universal applicability among cell lines. Here, we present an animal-free, algae-based solution, in which native protein from Galdieria sulphuraria leads to proliferation of different mammalian cell lines.
