摘要

Classical strategies against bacterial infections are based on antibiotics. However, the emergence of multidrug resistant bacterial strains requires exploring new avenues for innovative concepts to combat infections. Synthetic Biology offers tools to design cell-based sensor/actuator systems that detect and counteract infections early, i. e. in statu nascendi. In future, such systems could become important for combating localized infections such as on implant surfaces.
