<p>Microorganisms can withstand and thrive in any environment given the right selection pressure. However, the optimal amount for selective pressure to be successful needs to be determined before the microorganisms can counteract and adapt. Here, we present a synthetic bacterial consortium grown only under the presence of aromatic compounds to be able to withstand and degrade synthetic azo dyes – allowing the possibility to improve microorganisms for bioremediation.</p>
