Directed evolution is a powerful tool for optimization of industrially relevant enzymes. But the vast sequence spaces of mutant libraries bring traditional screening methods to their limits. Droplet microfluidics, however, has a significantly higher throughput, with the capability to screen over million enzyme variants within few hours.
