摘要

Bacteria maintain electrical polarization across their membrane, which is crucial for ATP synthesis, membrane transport, and other cellular functions. Recent studies showed astonishing polarization dynamics governed by electrical and mechanical stimuli, as well as antibiotic treatment. These dynamics affect bacterial survival in a complex way. While cell-to-cell heterogeneity is prominent, several studies report collective polarisation patterns in response to limitation of growth resources.
