Extensive Benign Osteochondromatous Metaplasia in the Breast: A Case Report
摘要
Osteochondromatous metaplasia of the breast is an exceptionally rare benign condition characterized by the presence of mature bone and cartilage within breast tissue, often mimicking malignancy both clinically and radiologically. We present the case of a 60-year-old female with a palpable breast lump, whose histopathological evaluation revealed interlacing bony trabeculae and cartilaginous areas within fibrocollagenous stroma, with evidence of enchondral ossification. No cytological atypia or mitotic activity was observed. Immunohistochemistry showed strong nuclear positivity for SATB2, indicating osteoblastic differentiation, and was negative for pancytokeratin, effectively ruling out epithelial malignancy. This case highlights the need for careful histological and immunohistochemical assessment to avoid misdiagnosis and unnecessary aggressive treatment.
