The network digital twin in Internet of Vehicles: applications, modeling, and challenges
摘要
A digital twin DT is a technology that creates virtual representations of real-world entities. In the context of the networking area, this concept is applied as the network digital twin NDT for efficient network management. Recently, this promising technology has been thoroughly discussed in recent research, and several surveys have studied NDT from different perspectives. This review focuses on the specific applications and objectives of NDT within the Internet of Vehicles IoV ecosystem. It classifies NDT use cases in IoV networks into the four main classes, including resource management, path planning, power management, and predictive maintenance. The classification indicates that NDT can assume various models and multiple capabilities to address the complex challenges of modern IoV networks. This comprehensive overview has a twofold objective: to show how IoV can benefit from NDT, and to outline the principal challenges and opportunities that need to be addressed by future research.
