<p>Wild food plants (WFPs) play vital roles in the local food system, economy, and cultural identity of the Balti community in the Ghanche, Karakorum, Pakistan. In this study, we explored how WFPs intersect with biocultural values, livelihood, gender, and transmission of knowledge across generations. Fieldwork was conducted using semi-structured questionnaires. We interviewed 45 women and 25 men across 17 villages. Fifty-eight WFP species belonging to 24 families, dominated by Rosaceae, Polygonaceae, and Fabaceae, were recorded. Fruits (26%) and leaves (25%) were the most utilized plant parts; the fruits were mainly consumed fresh, while leaves were cooked as vegetables. Notably, 23 species were reported for the first time as WFPs in Pakistan. Twenty WFPs have economic values influenced more by availability than by their cultural values or rarity. Elder participants have more WFP knowledge than younger individuals (<i>R</i><sup>2</sup> = 0.8), indicating a decline. Moreover, the role of gender in the division of knowledge is prominent; women have more knowledge of plants than men due to their primary involvement in household activities. Revitalizing biocultural heritage through exploring WFPs is crucial for improving culinary diversity, ensuring food security, and developing food alternatives. Community awareness through storytelling, school curricula, planned workshops, and digital media can help to preserve the traditional knowledge of WFPs.</p>
