Currently, Myrcia fluminensis is only known to occur in a montane area in the northern portion of Rio de Janeiro state, and it differs from all other species of Myrcia by its large leaves with cordate bases, brownish, pubescent inflorescences, and linear anthers with effective dorsal openings 1/8 the length of the anther. Additionally, a distribution map and preliminary conservation assessment are also presented.
