摘要

The Neotropical genus Monticalia (Compositae, Senecioneae) comprises ca. 78 species that are erect, shrubby plants growing mainly in the páramo ecosystem from the northern Andes. In Ecuador, a comprehensive taxonomic revision of the genus is still lacking. Herein, a new species, Monticalia mingae, is described from the province of Azuay and compared to the most similar species. Moreover, two names are placed in synonymy, M. rosmarinifolia under M. angustifolia, and M. myrsinites under M. arbutifolia. The first identification key for Monticalia in Ecuador is provided.
