Hypenia kalunga is here described and illustrated as a new species of Lamiaceae from the Brazilian Cerrado. It is compared to morphologically similar species, and a distribution map along with a preliminary conservation assessment is provided. The new species can be recognized by its chartaceous and pale green leaves with serrate margins, lax inflorescence bearing uniflorous cymes with campanulate calyx bearing deltate lobes, and a pale-lilac corolla. The new species is here assessed for the IUCN Red List as Data Deficient due to lack of records.
