Range expansion and conservation implications of Utricularia warmingii (Lentibulariaceae) found in Northeastern Brazil
摘要
Utricularia warmingii Kamieński is a poorly known suspended aquatic herb native to South America, for which only a few collection records exist. In Brazil, the extinction risk of this species was categorised as Data Deficient due to inconsistencies in occurrence data and uncertainties in existing information. The lack of any collections in recent decades has led to the assumption that the species is locally extinct in the states of São Paulo and the type locality in Minas Gerais. In this study, we report the first occurrence of U. warmingii from Piauí state, in Northeastern Brazil. We provide a detailed morphological description, information about the geographical distribution, habitat, and phenology of the species, along with a distribution map and photographs. Based on this new record, analyses of previous records in Brazil, and considering the threats affecting the species, we propose a reassessment of its conservation status in Brazil. In our reassessment, the species was categorised as Endangered [B2ab(iii)]. Finally, a lectotype is designated for Utricularia hoehnei Kuhlm., a synonym of U. warmingii.
