Eschweilera imarco (Lecythidaceae), a new species of treelet from Tolima department, Colombia
摘要
Eschweilera imarco, a new endemic species of treelet from Tolima department, Colombia, is described, illustrated and its morphological similarities and differences with related species are discussed. This species occurs in wet montane forests over poor sandy-clay soils of Bosque de Galilea Regional Natural Park, an area located on the western slopes of the eastern Cordillera. Eschweilera imarco presents an unusual habit in a predominantly bigger-tree genus, as it is an understory and lower stratum treelet (with a maximum height of 6 m), with stems that do not reach 10 cm in diameter. Information about its habitat, a distribution map and data for its conservation status are included. An identification key to the Eschweilera and Scottmoria species of the Colombian Andes is also provided. Currently, E. imarco is threatened by deforestation in some areas of the park, and protection of these forests are needed.
