<p><i>Chamaebuxus</i> Tourn., in its current delimitation, includes five species from the Mediterranean and one from North America, and it has been reinstated among several genera recently segregated from <i>Polygala</i>. The type species, formerly known as <i>Polygala chamaebuxus</i> L. or <i>Polygaloides chamaebuxus</i> (L.) O.Schwarz, has been cultivated in Europe, at least, since the 17th century. Historically, <i>Chamaebuxus</i> has undergone taxonomic and nomenclatural changes, with Martinez &amp; Pastore ultimately reinstating the name <i>Chamaebuxus</i>. Since the combination based on <i>Polygala chamaebuxus</i> was blocked in <i>Chamaebuxus</i> due to tautonymy, Martinez &amp; Pastore in 2024 used <i>Chamaebuxus alpestris</i> Spach. However, an older name was available for the type species of <i>Chamaebuxus</i>, <i>Polygala unguiculata</i> Poir. Therefore, a new combination, <i>Chamaebuxus unguiculata</i>, is presented here.</p>
