The correct name for the box-leaved milkwort, the generitype of Chamaebuxus (Polygalaceae)
摘要
Chamaebuxus Tourn., in its current delimitation, includes five species from the Mediterranean and one from North America, and it has been reinstated among several genera recently segregated from Polygala. The type species, formerly known as Polygala chamaebuxus L. or Polygaloides chamaebuxus (L.) O.Schwarz, has been cultivated in Europe, at least, since the 17th century. Historically, Chamaebuxus has undergone taxonomic and nomenclatural changes, with Martinez & Pastore ultimately reinstating the name Chamaebuxus. Since the combination based on Polygala chamaebuxus was blocked in Chamaebuxus due to tautonymy, Martinez & Pastore in 2024 used Chamaebuxus alpestris Spach. However, an older name was available for the type species of Chamaebuxus, Polygala unguiculata Poir. Therefore, a new combination, Chamaebuxus unguiculata, is presented here.
