Towards a revision of the Cyphia elata complex (Campanulaceae: Cyphioideae) in southern Africa, with a provisional key to the species
摘要
Based on molecular evidence, the Cyphia elata complex comprises a strongly supported clade within the genus Cyphia, but it is morphologically exceedingly variable and a taxonomically difficult group. Information from the literature and observations based on field study and herbarium specimens are assembled in preparation for a revision of the Cyphia elata complex (Campanulaceae s.l., subfamily Cyphioideae; alternatively Lobeliaceae or Cyphiaceae), a group of plants confined to southern Africa. We present a preliminary classification and an identification key for 11 species (including three potentially new species) within the complex. Eleven names in Cyphia are lectotypified and the potentially new species are listed. Relevant literature, distribution information, representative specimens, and notes on classification and nomenclatural issues, including problems still to be resolved, are provided for each taxon.
