摘要

Macroptilium is native to the Americas, with Brazil as the centre of diversity. From the analysis of herbarium specimens and field collections, a new species, endemic to the Brazilian Cerrado, Macroptilium coradinii is recognised, described and illustrated. Morphologically, it is differentiated from all other species of the genus mainly by its overall dense indumentum and its yellow or orange wing petals and flowers which are greater than 2 cm in length. We provide an identification key to the species of Macroptilium occurring in the Brazilian Cerrado and data on the distribution, taxonomy and conservation status of the new species.
