<p>The genus <i>Cyphostemma</i> in the Vitaceae consists of approximately 250 taxa. Except for four to five tendrillate species occurring in tropical Asia, the others are found on the African continent. Here we describe first the Asian etendrillate species, <i>Cyphostemma namonarmadense,</i> from the Satpuda Hills of Narmada district, Gujarat, India. This species was found growing on gravelly and loose soils along the roadside and forest margins where it can trail over the slopes. Morphologically, it shares similarities with <i>C. setosum</i> due to its tuberous, perennial nature but is distinguished by its trailing habit, etendrillate stems, 2 – 6 cm long petioles, simple to 3-foliolate leaves, pale green calyx, and puberulous berries. The new species is described, illustrated and compared with other congeneric and etendrillate taxa from Africa and Asia.</p>
