A new, overlooked species of Gynura (Compositae) endemic to Comoros
摘要
A new species of Gynura Cass. (Compositae) is described from Comoros. It was originally treated as Senecio petitianus subvar. discoideus Humbert. The long-exserted, gradually tapered and remarkably papillose style branches reveal that this is not a member of the genus Senecio L. but of Gynura. The species presents morphological affinities with the tropical African species G. scandens O.Hoffm. and the endemic Seychelles Islands species G. sechellensis (Baker) Hemsl. Following the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria, a provisional risk of extinction status of Endangered is assigned to the new species. A line drawing and field pictures are also provided.
