<p>A new species of <i>Euploca</i> (Heliotropiaceae) is described, <i>Euploca flausinae</i> J.I.M.Melo, hitherto recorded only in Tocantins state, Central Brazil. It can be readily recognised by its caespitose habit, forming clumps, lanceolate to linear leaf blade, petiole c. 0.5 mm long, inflorescences up to 24 cm long, linear bracts, pedicel tomentose and up to 1 mm long and by the globose, strigose schizocarp. A distribution map with known occurrence records as well as data on the habitat, morphological diagnostic characters and reproductive phenology of the species are provided. A key to distinguish <i>E. flausinae</i> from the other species of <i>Euploca</i> from Tocantins state is presented. Additionally, <i>E. decorticans</i> M.J.Silva &amp; J.I.M.Melo, <i>E. paradoxa</i> (Mart.) J.I.M.Melo &amp; Semir and <i>E. salicoides</i> (Cham.) J.I.M.Melo &amp; Semir are recorded for the first time for Tocantins state and for the North region of Brazil. Our results increase the number of <i>Euploca</i> representatives in the state to nine, of which five species were previously known, as well as adding the new species to the vegetation of the Brazilian Cerrado.</p>

A new species of Euploca (Heliotropiaceae) is described, Euploca flausinae J.I.M.Melo, hitherto recorded only in Tocantins state, Central Brazil.
