<p>Two new Marantaceae species are described and named, <i>Maranta testudinea</i> and <i>M. generans</i>. Both species originate from the Brazilian Amazon but are described as a result of their introduction to greenhouses kept by private collectors and governmental scientific collections. The new species are compared to <i>M. cristata</i> and <i>M. leuconeura</i>. We provide notes on their morphology, distribution, habitat, phenology and etymology and vernacular names, as well as provisional assessments of their conservation status.</p>
