<p><i>Lepidaploa urceolata</i> is a new, critically endangered species from the upper montane, semideciduous, seasonal forest and scrub vegetation of the Caparaó mountain range, in Southeastern Brazil. The new species is recognised mainly by its strongly bullate leaves, urceolate involucre, involucral bracts with a deflexed apex, inner bristles of pappus with enlarged apices and an atypical G pollen grain type; it is morphologically related to <i>L</i>. <i>eriolepis</i> and <i>L</i>. <i>muricata</i>. This paper provides a detailed description, diagnosis and illustrations of <i>L. urceolata</i>, with comments on its distribution, ecology and conservation.</p>

Lepidaploa urceolata is a new, critically endangered species from the upper montane, semideciduous, seasonal forest and scrub vegetation of the Caparaó mountain range, in Southeastern Brazil.
