摘要

Extracts derived from natural resources had attracted a specific attention due to their broad utilization in several fields. The current work focuses on the extraction of a colored extract from Ficus elastica flowers in water and its use for cotton dyeing under the change of several experimental conditions. Polyethyleneimine and poly (diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (cationizing agents), pomegranate bark, and date pits (bio-mordants) were used, at different contents, to improve the quality of dyeing. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examination showed that the treated cotton samples had a less smooth structure. The application of cationic reagents and bio-mordants also altered the morphological features of the fibers and the surface became more deformed. In order to optimize the dyeing process, dyeing parameters were studied using the experimental response surface method (RSM). The optimal conditions for cotton dyeing were found to be: time = 41 min, temperature = 100 °C, and pH = 7. The fastness properties of the dyed cotton samples were significantly improved after cationization and bio-mordanting processes.
