摘要

Heterocyclic liquid crystals (LCs) constitute a distinctive class of materials that combine the fluidity of liquids with the orientational order of solids. Their exceptional electronic and optical properties arise from the incorporation of heteroatoms such as nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur within their molecular framework, enabling a wide array of advanced technological applications. These include high-performance displays, photonic devices, nonlinear optics, sensors, biomedical systems, organic electronics (e.g., organic photovoltaics), smart responsive materials, energy storage solutions, holography, and nanotechnology templates. This review explores the mesomorphic properties of liquid crystalline heterocycles, focusing on key classes such as pyridines, isoxazoles, thiazoles, thiophenes, 1,2,3- and 1,2,4-triazoles. By providing a comprehensive analysis of their liquid crystalline behavior, this article highlights the versatility and potential of heterocyclic LCs in next-generation applications.
