Pushing limits: integrating smart nanosensors and the Internet of Things in agriculture
摘要
Global farming system faces extreme pressure to enhance productivity while mitigating environmental degradation, spurred by climate change and rising food demands. To overcome these pressures, farming system is with time embracing technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and smart sensors. These techniques facilitate forecasting analytics, precision farming, real-time monitoring, productivity, and optimizing resource use. Such advances are not only improving efficacy but also supporting the shift toward more sustainable and resilient agricultural practices. This review highlights how the integration of nanosensors and IoT is transforming agriculture system, offering sustainable solutions to these challenges. It discusses how these technologies combination play a crucial role in turning agriculture into a sophisticated and data-driven field, impacting factors like greenhouse gas reduction, farm economics and overall productivity. The review emphasizes the transformative influence of smart nanosensors and IoT in fostering a more sustainable and productive agricultural sector. IoT is playing a pivotal role in transforming various industries, including agriculture, by ensuring continuous data transfer between the physical and computational framework and facilitate fast decision making. With the growing demand for food, there is a need to modernize and expand agriculture, and the IoT market is expected to grow rapidly to address challenges like soil conditions, pest detection, and precise harvesting time estimation. Smart nanosensors, characterized by high sensitivity, affordability and portability, are central to this transformation. They provide exact information on soil health, moisture, and nutrient levels, developing the backbone of intelligent networks that enable automated irrigation and agrochemical management. By integrating these two advance techniques together, agriculture is becoming more predictive. The review emphasizes the synergy between IoT and nanosensors in driving precision farming and presents a comprehensive assessment of their technological growth. This review outlines current advancements and identifies future research directions that can support the development of intelligent agricultural systems, crucial for addressing food security, climate adaptation, and sustainability goals.
