Energy demands, current production methods and development perspectives
摘要
The Sun’s energy that falls on Earth exceeds the world’s needs by almost four orders of magnitude. Despite this very large amount of energy, the use of fossil fuels still makes up the lion’s share of the required energy contributing more than 80% of it. At the same time, it contributes to the global warming of our planet. Thus, the transition from the current situation to the availability of a stable source of electricity implies the introduction of technological innovations beyond the revamp of nuclear power. This is the case of nuclear fusion which is a natural source of energy since it is the source of energy coming from the Sun and the stars. In addition, the recent discoveries on the modifications of DNA due to specific enzymes allow the synthesis of biofuels which are suitable to support human activities in the framework of carbon neutrality.
