Effect of normalizing treatment on microstructure and mechanical behavior of Si-Mn modified SAE 52100 steel
摘要
The effects of adding Si and Mn to the chemical composition of bearing steels have been the focus of numerous studies, in order to modify the microstructure and to improve mechanical properties such as fracture and impact toughness. The intention of this work was to explore a new processing route of the previously mentioned steel, the normalizing heat treatment route. The main purpose of this work was the investigation of the normalizing heat treatment effect on the hardness, impact strength, and tensile strength at 25 °C, 300 °C, and 400 °C of SAE 52100 modified steel containing 1.82 %wt Si and 1.00 %wt Mn. Microstructure analysis by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques were carried out in addition to fracture surface analysis. The normalized 52100 modified steel presented an average hardness of 496 HV, 12 J of absorbed energy in Charpy impact test and Tensile properties: Su: 764 MPa, Sy: 759 MPa.
