摘要

To reduce carbon emissions in the building sector, VRF systems should use low-GWP refrigerants due to their high refrigerant charge. This study explored R466A as a drop-in replacement for R410A in VRF systems, conducting system-scale compatibility tests under various conditions for practical assessment. For this purpose, compressor test loops were fabricated with identical components except for the materials in the compressor balance weights. To accelerate the chemical reaction between the refrigerant and the oil, an off-design model was used, suggesting operational guidelines within the compressor envelope with high and low saturation pressures of 40.0 bar.g and 11.0 bar.g, respectively. At a heat source inlet temperature of 18.0 °C and a heat sink inlet temperature of 56.0 °C, refrigerant pressures were controlled to target values. As a result, zinc-based balance weights led to sludge formation and system failure. Replacing them with stainless steel balance weights allowed the system to operate for 500 hours. Chemical analyses of the stainless steel balance weights showed acceptable levels of fluoride (0.2 ppm), copper (1.58 ppm), and TAN (0.16 mg KOH/g). In conclusion, R466A is compatible with POE lubricant oil if zinc-based materials are excluded.
