摘要

The application of the independent friction-restitution (IFR) closure to describe the measurements of the major and minor axis of the contact area in the rebound of a sphere on a massive plane is described. This formulation combines the basic issues of Hertz’s contact model with the simplest version of the IFR model, where friction and restitution mechanisms are assumed to operate independently through the impact event. The resulting formulation predicts different variations of the contact area axes with the impact angle and the impact velocity in agreement with available experimental data.
