Silicon carbide-graphite action on characteristics measure of aluminium alloy hybrid nanocomposite

The present research investigation utilizes nano-sized graphite (Gr) and silicon carbide (SiC) as secondary fillers incorporated into a primary aluminium alloy (Al6061) matrix using a two-step stir casting method. Investigate the impact of this advanced two-step stir technology on the microstructure of the hybrid composite using a scanning electron microscope equipped with a tungsten-heated cathode electrode. This study assesses the effects of Gr and SiC on the porosity, density, tensile properties (yield strength, ultimate strength, and elongation), microhardness, and impact toughness of the hybrid nanocomposite at room temperature with a relative humidity of 60 %. The homogenous structure of the Al6061/5 wt% Gr/9 wt% SiC hybrid nanocomposite exhibits superior mechanical properties compared to other compositions. Specifically, the two-step stir casting technique has demonstrated the ability to reduce the porosity level to less than 1 %, resulting in enhanced yield strength (124±4 MPa), tensile strength (153±3 MPa), and microhardness (92±2 HV).
