Incremental alternating algorithm for damage and fracture modeling using phase-field method

In this work, the investigation was conducted on the introduction of an incremental alternating algorithm for damage and fracture modeling using phase-field method. The proposed approach is based on successive alternate resolutions of the kinematic and damage variables at each time step. The irreversibility condition of damage was forced at each step using the penalty condition within the variational form. The resulting algorithm is easy to implement and has shown to be fast in the prediction of crack initiation and propagation in solid structures.
