<p>The aim of the curriculum “Oncological cardiology” is to train cardiologists in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of the cardiovascular side effects of cancer treatment. The topics include cardiovascular toxicity, pharmacology, radiotherapy, risk stratification, diagnostics, treatment, prevention and aftercare. The staged training is divided into a general and a special part: the principles of oncological treatment, mechanisms, side effects, examination and diagnostic procedures are included in the general part. Details on arrhythmias, anticoagulation, treatment and side effects of targeted, immune and hormone treatment are included in the special part. The curriculum particularly promotes the individual risk classification and possible cardiovascular treatment plans. The prerequisites for enrolment in the curriculum are a minimum of 3 years training in internal medicine with a focus on cardiology and includes practical experience as well as participation in an appropriate further education course. A total of three stages are differentiated, principles of oncological cardiology (stage 1), basic treatment in oncological cardiology (stage 2) and specialized oncological cardiology (stage 3). In the different stages of training different clinical knowledge must be demonstrated. The staged training is intended to enable that as many colleagues as possible with different tasks in hospital treatment, research and training to complete an individually tailored curriculum. The curriculum mediates knowledge and skills on cardiovascular treatment of patients with cancer, the interdependence of cardiological and oncological diseases as well as recognition, evaluation and treatment of the cardiovascular side effects of cancer treatment. The curriculum on oncological cardiology of the German Cardiac Society (DGK) aims to establish a high-quality training standard for cardiologists in Germany. On fulfilment of all prerequisites, candidates receive a certificate for the curriculum “Oncological cardiology” of the DGK.</p>
