摘要

Social media in cardiology offer chances as well as risks. They enable a rapid dissemination of scientific knowledge, the networking of experts and provide a platform for the interactive exchange. However, clear quality criteria for the contents are so far lacking. The verification of authors and their information is also difficult. For a legally conform use of social media in cardiology, the accompanying legal pitfalls should be absolutely known before use. It would also be desirable if in the future the medical societies would create a legally secure framework on their congress meetings, both from the side of the speakers and the audience. Overall, a professional use of social media requires a continuous critical assessment of the contents of shared posts, the consideration of rules of behavior and a conscious selection of topics.
